Friday Finishes!

This week hasn't been my best week, the flu stayed, so I had to rest most of the week. The bad thing is my sister had to do some things on her own and I helped find people who could go out to dinner with her so she didn't have to eat alone. Since she is land locked, being home means eating lots of fresh seafood. The good thing for me is I got some rest and had time to do some stitching. I am still weak but I am hoping we can get out this weekend.

I made two pillows, one for me and one for a friend. The first is a design by Cheri Saffiote. I wanted to make a wall hanging with wool, but a quick stitchery was easier while I rested. It was a fun one to do and I may still do the wool version.

The second pillow is a design by, By My Hand. I love the kitties and the saying, perfect for a gift.

And another think that wiped me out was over doing it on the weekend, way too much glass hunting, lol.

On Saturday we went to my favorite glass hunting beach. As we were leaving, a man asked me how to tell what was glass. He had rocks and one piece of glass and thought the glass was rock, lol. I showed him what mine looked like and the best way to find it, so he walked away, a happy man.

And this is what we found, Bill helps and my sister found a couple of pieces.

That night the kids came over and we had dinner together. I was washing the glass and asked Nick to help me sort it. He loved helping and then he took some pieces and said, I made you an angel. He is the joy in my heart.

On Sunday, Bill and I went out by ourselves and hit another favorite beach, while my sister stayed home for visitors. The pile on the right side is from one beach,  the pile of white glass and to the left is from Bill's sister's beach. She had a lot more, even though it was scrap too. We did find some nice old pieces at both beaches.

I love finding glass, but I think spending so many hours, bent over is killing my back, so I do need to cut back. We have a nice week coming up, and we are hoping to get up to NH, the following week. Bill has too much vacation time left, so we want to enjoy a mid week, foliage trip.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Giveaway Winner!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Mine has been busy, it took a few days to recover and then days of catching up with cleaning and decorating, but I was able to get it done before my sister got here. Now I am busy or more like, my time is being eaten up by a sister who talks non stop and it is literally exhausting.

I was able to get my stitcheries done, one for me and one was a gift. It is a design by Kathy Schmitz for the One Stitch Club. It was fun to do and a nice addition to my fall decorations.

And of course I have been glass collecting, the first two are from my SIL's and the larger, last one was from today. We took my sister to my favorite glass beach and luckily no one had been there today, so I found some really nice pieces and some nice old chunks. If you can see the one in the center, it is almost a heart and has red on it. There was something about it that was interesting and it wasn't until I picked it up after cleaning that it looked off, so I shone the flashlight and believe it or not, it is a piece of brown glass. Not sure where the paint came from.

We took my sister to Jamestown and hit the usual beaches and lighthouse, so she could get photos and I took lots of her at different locations. She did find one nice white piece, I just seem to have a knack for seeing and finding it;)

At the lighthouse she wanted to climb around the cliffs, she is braver than I am when it comes to heights.

And she took some photos of us, we never get ones with both of us, since I always take the photos. Here we are, being a bit silly.

And of course we had to get another batch of apples, she loved doing that and they still had peaches, so I got a bag full, love fresh fruit.

And now for the giveaway winner! The lucky number was 4, Mindy of Raymond Homestead! Please email me your address and I will get your table mat in the mail. Congratulations! I do plan on doing more, I do have a lot of Christmas goodies too. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. Hopefully my sister will find some friends to hang out with, I really need a break;)

Giveaway Day!

I decided to do a giveaway today, I hope you like what I have chosen. This week was recovering and catching up and heavy cleaning, so I didn't get to finish my new project. My sister is coming next week, so I want to get everything done, so we can enjoy having fun together.

This mat I made awhile ago, it has been sitting in my box of goodies, so I think it is time to let someone enjoy it. It is stained but not too dark and would be a nice mat for a round table or beneath a candle holder. It measures 9 1/2" round, even though it is a little wonky.

This piece is nice for spring or fall. To enter, please answer any of the following questions. Do you have a favorite craft supplier, who has good prices and sells in bulk. I am looking for small driftwood pieces or ornaments made with barn wood, unfinished that I can use for the glass or other items.

Or this question: If you have a cat, what is the best litter box. Moki is pre diabetic so I have to feed him lots of canned food and lots of water, which means lots of cleaning. It is a mess and smelly, and was wondering if there is actually one that cats will use and omits the mess and smell.

And if you don't have a cat or buy craft supplies, any housecleaning tips? Ways to get more done in less time when you live with a slob?

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. This contest is open to all of my followers and will end next Friday, September 21st. I will announce the winner that night. I also have lots of Christmas goodies in my box, so there will be another giveaway before Christmas.

Vacation is Over!

It makes me laugh when I use the word vacation, not sure if I would call it that, more of a get away, lol. I get less sleep, I go all day, run back and forth to take care of kitties and basically the same things I do at home, but in a trailer. I think this week is more of a vacation, at least when I recover.

Today was catching up and lots of resting, my body finally gave out. But, it was good to do something different in a different place, it makes you appreciate home more. For me, I remember the moments, and we had some nice ones.

The area has a lot of estuaries and lots of birds, frequent the area. We were treated to a couple of egrets who foraged and danced.

A juvenile Cormorant made me smile, he would submerge most of his body in the water to look for fish and then make the funniest movements, trying to keep it in his bill. The adults all stay on the rocks, but the young ones are not afraid of people.

And the starlings are migrating and there were thousands at the beach. We would walk in and they would be all over the beach, then take off and fly all around us, what a magical thing to experience. From the beach we could see the formations they made, as they flew around the area.

Bill snuck a photo of me, searching for glass, even Bean found a few for me, by digging up the area. A lot of seaweed comes in, which covers the pebble beds, so harder to find glass. We also had to search more in the twilight, so it was harder to see, but we got some daytime searching at the end of the week.

We met a couple who were waiting for the sunset. It reminds me, that no matter how bad things seem, at times, there are others who are going through, much more.

The clouds came in that night, but I was awed by the rays beaming through the clouds, onto the ocean.

And on the weekend, there was a charity swim.  It as just ending as we got there.

And after the sunsets, we walked along the beach for a bit. We found lots of beach toys and even found a nice chair, I guess people don't want to take them home after vacation. And of course, before the last light, we admired the castles along the shoreline, before the last of the tide, swept them out to sea.

And of course, my favorite activity is glass hunting. We found a bit of glass, pottery bits, brick pieces that will be used for roofs and houses and I got a couple of large shells, to try some paintings on. I have been finding ideas to use with the glass, so will be trying those soon and I think it is time for a giveaway, so look forward to that, maybe a beach glass ornament.

I hope you all had a wonderful week and prayers for those in the hurricane's path.

Vacation adventures!

This has been another weird vacation. Being last minute and the fact that I don't have a cat sitter, I have to come home every day to check on them and clean the mess up, then a load of laundry goes in and any shopping. We also wash our dishes here, since the area is still under an E coli, water ban. We have plenty of water and filled our tanks before leaving, but still a pain. We love to get coffee down the road, but I do not trust buying anything from the local shops, so I have to settle for coffee bags.

Our site is nice, but a bit small and surrounded by overgrowth, so that makes it private, but kills the view. I can see the beach and ocean when I am in the trailer, but the other problem, if the bush weren't there, I would be watching cars go by, which is what I hear all day and night. It is the main access road to the fishing port.

It has also been too hot, but having the beach nearby and weekdays, we can go with Bean and enjoy the fresh ocean breezes. I also spend my time hunting for glass and have found some nice pieces of glass and more pottery pieces. Not as much, but nicer pieces.

We also made a friend. We met him on the first night and every day that I go down, he comes over when he sees me and follows me around. I did bring him some food, he liked our fried chicken nuggets, but not much else. I even found a fresh minnow for him and he loved that, lol. I found a contact for rescue and sent them a message with photo, so hopefully they can help him. In this photo it looks like his wing is broken at the joint, which means it won't heal.

Luckily this fish washed up on shore. It was dead, but he was quite happy to open it up and have the insides for dinner.

Yesterday I noticed he was moving his muscle and his wing looks more upright, so maybe it will heal, sure hope so. He is a young sea gull, and today he also ran and flapped it a bit when Bean decided to go check him out.

We also get to enjoy the sunsets at night. It is beautiful even before it sets.

And when it sets, even more vibrant.

When it got dark, we walked back to the main beach and searched a bit more and I stumbled onto this guy. No idea what it is, reminds me of a sea slug, so I will have to research it when I have more time online. We have found lots of strange things on the shore and lots of beach toys are left, so we pick those up, and will give them to the boys.

And last night we had another amazing sunset. The ferry is making it's last run to pick up passengers on the island. Tonight we had a storm coming in, so decided to come home and get things done. Between beach combing, walking in the waves and swimming, then coming home and catching up on laundry and things, I am ready to zonk out. Tomorrow will be cooler, so I think we can enjoy the camp more, be nice to go for walks and not have to be so hot. I hope you are all having a good week. I will post again after we get back with more on our trip.
