Friday Finish!

 

This week I finished one piece, two others I am working on. One is a table runner that I am hand stitching and another stitchery for Christmas.

I had plans this week, it was our vacation week and our rates are down, so we can travel to the northern states, but lucky me is sick. I have all the Covid symptoms except the cough, but I have been taking meds that I have on hand for lyme and added a few days of Chloroquine, that is what seemed to push me back to health. I am still tired and weak, but today I was able to do light therapy exercises in the spa. Tomorrow I get a test from the CVS, wish I had done it sooner but if it is negative, then I know I am safe and will be able to take the boys out next weekend when the holiday is over. We will be able to go the the Connecticut parks for free again and it won't be long before foliage tours.

This stitchery is a pattern by Marg Low for the group, Love and Hugs from Australia, on Facebook. I didn't like how the light background stood out with the other colors, so I added a bit of walnut ink to tone it down. Unfortunately I noticed a bit of black where I used my ink pen. I have used them for years and never had it run, but this one is a larger brush size, so I guess they do bleed, so I will not use that again.

I added glitter threads for accents and on the edges, I wish that showed in a photo. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend and stay safe and healthy.

A Song in my Heart pillow!

This was another one of those weeks. Actually Thursday was just one of those days that I should have stayed in bed, but that was impossible because the first thing I had to do was strip my bed to clean up the cat puke on it. What woke me up was Bean whining, he was getting into things outside and it upset his stomach and he didn't make it out in time, so another mess to clean up.

Then I started cleaning and slipped on the floor and fell on my bad side, so not a good day to clean after all, I hit a few old injuries and made some new ones;) But, that wasn't the end of it, I was under the chair to get Bean's ball and he went screaming into my nose so now I have a really sore nose.

This week I worked on a pillow for our choir director. She was the one who helped me with the songs for Danielle's Mass and some of the songs I chose were not allowed and I was just too tired to think anymore, so I said, I trust you, you pick the rest out. Well, she spent all day going through songs to pick out just the right songs that were similar to what I picked.

I remembered a design by Primitive Blessings and luckily I still had a copy. She does not have her site  up anymore and hopefully she will get a new service and list them again, I love using her designs for gifts. I love the saying on this one and I added an edging and filled it with stuffing and lavender. The back material has angel designs with inspirational sayings. I hope she likes folk art.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Today I got some supplies I needed and hoping to get out for some short walks this weekend. Besides being sore, I am out of shape, and the weather is perfect for  hiking.

Monday Finishes!

I was able to get in some sewing time this weekend and finished one piece, made another and started to finish a UFO.

The first piece is a design by Plumcute Designs. This was one of the free designs in the Buttermilk Basin spring hop. The original design is in a small hoop. I planned on putting mine on a wood heart, but the piece was too big for my heart. So, I went with a simple square pillow and added the saying.

I added a bumpy yarn by using  two strands and gathering it, as I went around to get a full decorative border. I added a cord so I could hang it on my peg rack at the top of the stairs.

This next piece is a free design from the Wool Applique group on Facebook. Trish from Attic Heirlooms is offering the designs and she also offers them on her website, but you have to get them during that month. I am making mine over sized because I will be hanging them on a line with clothespins, for a Christmas garland.

Another project that I have been wanting to do is a Christmas runner with blocks that my friend Lauri sent me. I finally got it into my head, how I should have sewed them to get them even, after I was finished, lol. I do not take things apart, so the uneven edges will stay;)

The middle section is white so I am trying to decide, if I quilt it, how should I quilt it and what design. I wanted to hand stitch it with black threads but not sure if i can do a nice design that way. Or, should I put an appliqué in that section? Would love suggestions.

I bought material to match it, but I wonder if it is too light? What do you think of the border fabric? It is more tan than the middle sections, but I plan on tea staining the piece, so the middle will be darker in the end. I hate to buy more fabric but I could also go with a dark red or green for the border?

Friday Finish .... New Pattern in Process!

I started a new pattern last week and it has been slow going this week so the pattern won't be ready till next week. It will be a two part pattern including the punch needle which you can see below and a small wall hanging with applique and stitchery.

Tonight I am showing the punch which I kept simple because I know many of you enjoy punch needle but not always the small details so I try and design them so they are easy to punch but still work into a nice design.

The original design was adapted from a fraktur but it turned into a crow piece. The accompanying piece will also have a saying. I also did a special border on the punch as well as a twisted yarn edge, and I will include the basic how to's in the pattern.

This punch is messed up, I traced the pattern backwards for punching and then traced it from the right side and didn't realize it until I saw that the letter was backwards. I redid the letter but left the crow as is, so it might seem a bit off. The crow should be facing the other way and the C on his left. I did not antique this piece yet so I could get a clear photo of the piece for the pattern.

Friday Finishes and New Pattern!

First of all, I hope you will all bear with me, as I practice making blog backgrounds. I had one made years ago and have no idea who made it, so I cannot figure out how to remove the middle color so I can balance it all out, but someday I will figure it out;)

This week I wanted to make something new and fun so I started doodling and B is for Bunny was the result. He was fun to make and has a wonderful character to put a smile on your face, we all need that this winter. He is a nice piece to do in any medium and can be done in a prim style or even for a babies room.

I wanted to keep my piece simple so you could see the design clearly but between my bad punching and the fact that I raised the height and forgot to put it down, it has a sculpted, scrappy look. Even with all his flaws, he is a fun piece and by using the bumpy yard around him, he makes a nice pillow.

Another piece I finished this week was a smaller rag wreath. This one I used homespuns that I didn't want to use for quilting since they were too thin, but perfect for a wreath. I also tried staining bright pink flowers for my larger wreath and one came out a darker color, so I added that and a few items to decorate the new wreath.

Friday Finish!

Today I finished two punch needle pieces. I had made one and this week, made another. A friend sent me the pattern, but my dull brain can't remember who;)

These will be Christmas gifts, so I finished them off, but left the opening so I can add balsam to them before I close them. I think it will be nice to hang on an artificial tree to bring in the pine smell or on a door or peg rack to fill the house with balsam.

I did one in similar colors to the pattern and three strand and one I did with 6 strand and a different color scheme. I do use three strands for the lettering. I decided they needed antiquing so I added walnut spray to them.

The pattern is called Joy, by Prairie Grove Peddler. I think the second one looks more like a top, lol. But, I do like the brighter color and the retro look it has.
