Saturday Paddle!

Today was a perfect day for paddling, warm sun and a cool ocean breeze. My son came with us and he really had a good time and enjoyed himself.

The guys paddling and chatting.

Father and son, enjoying the view.

It was low tide, so a lot of gulls enjoying the beach today.

This guy found himself a nice fresh conch shell. He would fly up and drop it on the rocks to get the meat out. Now I know why I can't find a nice conch shell that isn't broken up;)

There were a lot of boats out today, especially sailboats, perfect day for sailing and most were heading out to the bay.

My son was having fun walking in the water and looking for crabs. This guy was not happy to be taken out of the water, but he posed for me anyways. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. I am working on a few new projects, so I will have at least one done by monday.

Giveaway Winners!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. And for all of you who might not have noticed or were too polite to mention it, but Mother's day is next weekend, lol. It shows you how dense I am lately. I was looking at my new calendar and the events are listed at the top of the space, so I saw it as the date above it, duh. So, yesterday I finally realized that my kids were not ignoring me;)

I used the random number generator and the winner of two free patterns is.... Karmen of A Quilter Awakens. And for the winner or should I say winners of one free pattern, the winner is anyone who left a comment. Just send me an email with your choice of pattern or booklet and I will send you one! I really do appreciate your comments and a chance to laugh at your fun comments.

And for those of you who love the ocean, here are some scenes from our walk yesterday. It was a perfect day for a walk and I did double the distance, tired but a good tired.

We walked down a path, through the wooded  trails and came  down the beach and walked as far as we could towards the lighthouse.

This is the beach we walked down. The point at the end is where we have to go back to, then another long cove to get to the other point.

To get to this spot, we had to jump a small river that was coming out with the tide. The estuary is the perfect place for the birds to nest.

And for those of you who wonder where conchs come from, they grow on trees, of course;)

At the other point, the cormorants were enjoying the beautiful weather, as well. There were a couple of seals, but my photos were too blurry.

This guy had a place of his own.

A few people were out in their boats. I love how the zoom made the background look so ethereal.

On the way home, we stopped at the town beach and checked out the kayak demo day.

The perfect way to end the day, everyone was enjoying themselves.

Don't pick up Hitchhikers!

I had to get my brain centered today, to get myself going, but I finally got in a better frame of mind and was glad I went out.
We paddled for over 3 hours, and since it was high tide, we could paddle in and out of the coves further in. I just took my time and enjoyed being out. I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend.

"Didn't your mother tell you, to never pick up Hitchhikers!"

Why I never let Bill take pictures of me;)

We went into the village cove, lots of boats and the restaurant smells were making me hungry. I forgot my snacks at home. It was Bill's night for cooking, so we had fried shrimp, so now I am happy and full.

As for the time it takes to cook my green beans, I have no idea. Maybe because I cook them on low? But, the time in soaking and simmering, gives you the most delicious beans, just tender enough to eat, but not too soft to be mush.

Saturday on the Bay!

I really needed to get out and do things today, no matter how I feel.
It was a beautiful day, not too hot and nice breeze. So, we went to the cove.
It was hotter in the sun than I realized and it did tire me out quick, so instead of paddling in the coves, we went straight to the breakers. The breezes are so much nicer on the open waters and the views were spectacular today. It was so nice to get out and breath in the salt air, was so glad I went.

I do long to go out on the bay, splashing into the waves with my kayak, there is nothing like it. I will just have to a launch in the bay, then I can enjoy a paddle without having to paddle too far.

It was low tide today and lots of shells on the beach. I saw this conch in the water and pulled it out to look at it, then realized it was already occupied, lol. I thank you all for your wonderful comments and good wishes for a quick recovery. I hope all of you have a wonderful weekend, and enjoy the goodness and beauty that God has given us to enjoy.

Sunday's Stroll!

Today we went back to the same area and were able to hike around the whole pond.
The first path was through a lot of woods, swamps and up and down hills, so I got a great workout.
The path around the pond is an old road, that also went up and down the hills.

It was a perfect day for hiking, the sun was out, but it wasn't too hot.
This is the beach, it has a small sandy spot, not so sure whether I would want to swim in it with the slimy critters;)

We also had unexpected company this morning, so my daughter came along. She is moving into a new place and had to get out of her old one, so she is staying for a few days. Between her and her father, the kept me going at a faster pace then I normally do, I think I shall sleep well tonight.

This is the opposite side of the pond, where we found a nice place to take a rest. Luckily I bought some peaches, good energy food.

Moki hits the beach!

We went for a sunday drive today, it was cold, but the sun was shining, so nice day to get out.
We like to take the scenic routes, so we checked out the rivers, hit a few shops and then went to check out the breachway.
Well, we took the wrong road and ended up at a new place, we had never been. Always a nice surprise to find something new and a new place to launch our kayaks. We will definitely come back and paddle around this beautiful spot. As you can see, Moki had fun today at the beach too;)

And to show you that I don't always buy prim fabrics and have been building a secret stash of batiks, to play with.
I want to do some art pieces, so when I hit a quilt store, I like to get fat quarters that have nice patterns. I also found the black paisley and think it will make a beautiful border for a fratur style quilt.

Come Paddle With Me!

Today I finally got to go out paddling. It has been so hot lately, that I haven't been able to paddle.
Today was perfect, sunny and a nice breeze. We decided to go to our local launch which is in wickford harbor.

Here Bill is going under the bridge. Wickford is an old town, with lots of fun shops and lots of boats in the harbor.

We went back out into the main cove and paddled around the shores and landed at our favorite spot for our rest break.
This is where the boats go out to the bay, so we can sit and enjoy the breezes and the scenery.

This is a view looking back to Wickford, where we had gone first.

This is Bill getting back in his boat. The cove is a wonderful place to paddle, calmer than the bay and little islands to go around.

The treat for the day was what I found as we were heading back to the launch. The tide was high when we started and going down as we came in. As I was paddling near the shoreline, I saw all these little yellow things running into the mud and little holes. They looked like hundreds of big bugs.

When I got closer, I realized they were crabs. Lots of little fiddler crabs with one big yellow claw. As the run to hide in the mud, all you can see if the big yellow claw. It was very neat to see that, once I got over my, it looks like giant spiders fear;)

Then I got to see the bird in the nest that stands in the marshes. The marsh reeds are taller than I am and the pole is about 30 feet up, so I had to use a zoom to get a decent shot. That is not easy when you are in a rolling boat. Bill said it is a hawk, I say it looks more like an Osprey.

My Walk and a guessing game

Today I couldn't make up my mind whether to kayak or not. Then I checked the gear, which had been stored in the basement and decided I was not putting the musty items on, so they got cleaned today. We decided to go for a walk to Rome Point here in our own town. It is a nice walk through the woods and paths and comes out at the bay.

Here is were we come out from the main path. Bill is doing a dance for you;)
This stretch of water is where we do a lot of paddling. We start out going to the bridge and back to the launch and then I build up to going down the coast to the campus beach, which is about 3 miles one way.

At the opposite side is the point, that is where we headed next, walking along the rocks.

One of the reasons I wanted to get away from the house is that the air show is this weekend. They were practicing today and it was load and my dog was barking and going nuts. So much for a peaceful walk, here they come, with a blast that could blow out your eardrums.

Now, I like to take pictures, close ups of strange things. So here is some fun for all of you. I took this picture on the beach. tell me what those white things are called and what they are attached to and I will do a special drawing for a booklet, of those who guess right.

And for those of you, who ask to see new pictures of me, here it is, LOL.

An Ocean Walk

Today was another beautiful day, so I had to take advantage of it and go for another walk.
We headed for Wakefield, an old town in the southern region and hit one of my favorite antique consignments. Unfortunately, I didn't find any goodies today.

We decided to go to black point, it is a beautiful walk along the rocky shores that takes you along a path overlooking the rocks and to Scarborough beach. You can walk along the rocks too, but I stayed on the path and walked on the rocks near the biggest rock, where most people love to climb around and explore the tidal pools.

At the beach, the sand pipers were running back and forth with the tide. The minute the tide goes out, they run towards the water, grabbing food and then running back as the next wave comes in. They are never standing still for more than a few seconds.

This is a view of where we came down to the beach. There are crumbled structures still standing where the people who once lived in the area had homes and docks on the shore. Most of the area was farm land, so I can only imagine what it had been like a hundred years ago. As you can see in the sky, the moon payed a visit, early today.
