Braided Rug!

I decided to get back to my braided rug. I was going to make stair treads, then decided it was easier to buy them, lol.
So, I just kept braiding and this is what I have so far. I am going to put it in my living room, so I am braiding for now and seeing how it fits the room. If it is too long and not wide enough, I will take the first sections apart and make the middle smaller, so it will braid wider, as I go around. I am using mostly thrifts on this one and trying to keep the darks in there, but I like a bit of a pop, here and there.

I got nothing done today, it is way too hot. So hot that we decided it was time to put the main air conditioner in. So, just as my husband went to slide it in, he hit something and I hear a hissing, so much for that, it is dead. I have a portable one, so I had to put that in the living room and sit all day, with my heart problem, I can't do much without getting dizzy. Tomorrow we will go and get a new one.

The kitties are hot too, they are just lounging around all day. Moki has the sense to go in the basement where it is cool. I would go down there too and sit in my hooking room, but my daughter was over for a few days and it is a disaster. Now, what is wrong with this picture;)

And thank you for the compliments on my latest piece. It does look better in person than in the photo. I was thinking of putting old looking lace around it and making a small pillow. I will get going on my patterns, just trying to get my brain working again, sometimes I need a break and just create for awhile. I already found something new, I just have to make into something;)

Oh my, what a beautiful braided rug. I do so remember growing up, as a child, and having braided rugs around the house. But I've never learned to make them. Loved them, but never inspired to want to learn until I saw this one. Great job. Love the colors. And I truly now want to learn to make one.

Thanks for the inspirational post.

Such a wonderful braided rug! Wish I could braid that well. Sorry to hear about your A/C...I don't do well with the heat either. I'm already looking forward to fall :)

I love braided rugs. They make a room feel so cozy. It's amazing what can be made from recycled wool.

I'm glad I am allergic to wool so I can't be drawn into doing this project too!

The rug looks great! So expensive to buy one and so much nicer to make your own. Stay cool it is HOT here too, but at least I have air conditioning. Put some ice on your neck that will cool you off. Take care in the heat with your heart condition.

I have searched for braided stair treads and found them to be ridiculously expensive . . . . until I realized just how much work would be involved in making them. Better dust off the check book *s*

I am obsessed with braided rugs! My mother used to do some braiding. I'd love the really learn how. It seems like it goes through a lot of wool. I love your rug and I'm impressed it's mostly thrift wool. You've got me thinking that I could try this!

I do love braided rugs - they just say "home" to me. Yours is just lovely! I'm sorry to hear that your a/c isn't working....we ended up spending the night at my mum's it was so hot here. Came home and found the a/c unit in my room, yay for that, except now the temps have cooled WAY off, lol! At least I can still open my window. Stay cool, you and the kitties!

I love your braided rug! The colors are wonderful and you are doing a magnificent job of braiding! Some day I will have to get back to the one I started a few years ago!
Hope you get some relief from the hot weather soon! Ours turned from an oven to the cooler literally overnight!
Love the kittie pics! This heat is hard on the furry guys who around here have gotten used to the AC too!
Take Care!

The braided rug is wonderful, I can see it would be hard to work on in the heat. We've had the coldest spring ever and are still wearing sweaters. The cats look so cute, it must be cooler for them.

Deb, your rug is just gorgeous!! Wish I could figure out the lacing so mine don't turn into big bowls! LOL! You should do a tutorial on here for all of us to give it a whirl! :) So glad the storms were not severe.. although they sound like they pummeled the town. :(
Ok... heart problem??? What??? Maybe I haven't read down far enough.. what in the world is going on? xo Bren
