Weekend Wanderings!

This weekend kept me busy. Bill had to work on saturday but my son came over and I got to enjoy some play time with Nicholas.

Guess who is walking now and who doesn't stay still for long, so he kept me busy running after him.

Sunday we went for a paddle in our harbor. The weather was unpredictable and I didn't want to be too far from the launch in case a storm came in. It was overcast and it did rain a few times, but the nice thing was, no crowds, calm waters and cool air.

The tides were high so we could get right into the coves and enjoy the wildlife.

The wild fowl loved the weather too.

With the high tides we could go all the way into the inlets, the bull rush grows really tall in this area.

Today we went out with my Brother and Sister in law. I realized after a few minutes that they are not fast paddlers, so we slowed down the pace and followed them. I was able to talk my brother into going up the to ocean and even though he was nervous, he realized how fun and beautiful it was, once we got there.

Vacation Paddling!

We have been paddling every day since Saturday and it is wonderful getting out again and I am loving the fact that I can paddle longer in my new kayak. I admit, I can paddle easier but I also go longer so it is wiping me out each day, but Bill helps out with cooking and I can rest at night.

Yesterday we went to Narrow River which leads to Narragansett beach. It is a wonderful place to paddle along the waterway and the beach end that we land on, is basically a quiet end, only boaters use it, so a nice spot to sit and relax.

After we enjoyed the ocean, we headed back into the cove and paddled around before heading back. We ended up doing 6.5 miles yesterday.

This area has a lot of egrets and they are used to people paddling in the area.

And... this is the perfect way to end the day!

Today we went to Ninigret park. It is a large salt water pond that leads out to the ocean.
We headed right for the ocean, going up the waterway to the breakers that lead out to the ocean.

This was where we landed our boats, a nice quiet spot to sit and enjoy a rest.

And this is the view behind us, beautiful wild roses.

We walked over the dunes and enjoyed some time in the cool ocean breezes, perfect way to spend the day. We did 5.5 miles today, plus some beach walking, so I think that was enough for one day;) Friday is our actual anniversary but it is fun celebrating it all week long, doing what we both love.

Rivers and Oceans!

Today we paddled down Narrow river and into the entrance to the bay and the ocean beyond.
We of course stopped at the beach on the point and just looked at the ocean, I am not up to ocean paddling and I need a better kayak for that;)

It was a beautiful day, but warmer than I thought, so another tired night, but that is good.
I want to take advantage of having fun paddling, while Bill is home, so not much sewing and I will be postponing the review until Tuesday. Not only can you hear about a wonderful quilt program, but get a chance to win your own copy.

Lots of birds were enjoying the weather, I am sure they are glad the storm is over, too.



I found a friend. He seems to know the sound of a potato chip bag opening;)



We went out at high tide and within the hour, the tide started going out and it was fast. I was standing in the water up to my waist and then felt a drop and the water was at my hips. The water rushes so fast in this area, that everyone was having fun drifting from one end to the other shallows. Out boat was up to the water when we came in, the ones on the far left.



This is looking out to the entrance or exit, depending on which way you are going;) Keep going and you are in the Atlantic Ocean.



A look down the beach, the main beach is at the far end. Lots of people enjoying walking out to this area, but not too many, so it is a great place to sit and relax.

Coming back was tougher, the tide was going out and we were going in. I decided to head straight back instead of paddling in the coves, my body was letting me know, enough was enough. I think this house has seen it's day.

Vacation Paddle!

This is our Anniversary week and we usually go to Maine, but this year, we are staying home.
My husband has excess vacation time, so he still took the week off, so we can have some fun together.
Today we went to Pettaquamscutt River which is a tidal inlet that opens to the bay.

This is the view, looking towards the end of the inlet, where it opens into the bay. We plan on landing on the inside beach, since the outer inlet is rough and shallow and a good way to swamp your boat;)



This is where we stopped to enjoy the views of the bay, cool breezes and warm sun.

After we enjoyed the beach for awhile, we went back to the river area and explored the river and its sancturaries.
This nest looks like it has been in the making for years, not only is it home to an Osprey family, but their are smaller birds who have nested in the sides.



The area is teaming with wild birds, this egret seemed to content to watch as we paddled by.



It makes you wonder, who is watching whom.



There were so many birds today, but most were shy and did not want to stick around for a photo session;)
It was a wonderful day, perfect weather, but 3 hours of paddling and too much sun, so I know I will sleep well tonight.
