Friday Finish!

I really had to push this one to finish it tonight, lol. I wanted a runner for my bedroom table and since it would be covered with items, I didn't want to go fancy. I did want nice colors so I used a 5" charm pack of Metropolitan Fair by Barbara Brackman.

I thought this would be a good quilt to practice my machine skills with, but then I decided to hand stitch it with black thread, which was a lot more work than I realized. This is a long piece, 51" x 16". I stitched down and across the blocks, then an X in each one, as well as a border stitch.

This is a fun and easy project for charm packs and great for those long tables. I tend to move things around the house when I need more space, somewhere else and this is how the table go in this room. I am also going to hang my cross quilt over the table and then I can frame my cross stitches and put them around the quilt.

The mailbox is on the table for now, since the air conditioner is in front of the table, it usually goes on. Later I can redecorate this table to match the biblical theme. The table doesn't really match the room but it will do for now.

Here is a close up of the stitching. I rushed it a bit, so there are big and little stitches, but it adds to the charm;)

Mini Pumpkins!

My DIL decided to grow pumpkins this year.
I don't think she realized that they were mini pumpkins, so now we have tons of them.
The mice seem to like them too, so quite a few ended up in their stomachs;)

Today I thought I would bring out some of my fall and halloween decorations, but I couldn't find my main box with the garlands and other things. So, I just added a few of the pumpkins with what I could find, to start my decorating.

The air conditioner doesn't help, but not taking it out until I am sure it won't get hot again. I usually add my fall garland to the bureau, so will look for the rest tomorrow. I had an old tin barrow and thought it was a perfect idea to hold some pumpkins. The cat is something I found at an end of the season sale, he is such a fun piece.

Then I added some more to the top of my tv unit, to go with my cat collection. I still have some in a basket and placed a few in odd spots, not to mention the ones still growing. I have a lot of halloween doll patterns, from freebies, so maybe I will try and make up some that I can use. I am also working on my hexagon quilt, which I am hoping to finish quickly, so I can hang it over the couch for the fall.

Antique Fabric Boxes

I needed something to add to my cat display on top of my tv unit.
So, I made some antique looking fabric boxes. I used a bit too much water in the antique solution, so they warped a bit more than I wanted, lol. Not sure if I will leave them as is, or sand more and add more stain? As you can see, they are a bit lopsided.

This is the area, I am working on. I think I need another quilt or textile on the left side to warm it up some more.
The angle is not how I see it, I am normally looking up, so it looks better than a straight on shot. I am thinking a wooden sign for the backdrop with a cat theme, of course. The boxes on the left are store bought, sale aisle special at 3 dollars.

New drying rack

I love consignment shops. Our's have a lot of antiques and prim items in them and you never know what you will find.
I saw this rack and decided it would be a nice small item to decorate with. It came with the peg rack, so I can also hang ornies on that.

I just threw some things on it for now and put it in that space, since it is item at the moment. I was planning on putting a wall quilt there, but now I am thinking of a long shaker peg rack and then building a hanging shelf and candle holders to go on it. My husband is getting better at building me things as he learns, lol. He used to make me shelfs, benches and other wood items, but he has gotten out of practice. We will have wainscoting on the walls half way up, so I like the idea of prim shaker to keep it simple.

The doilies I hung on the rack are ones I made years ago. I think I need to stain the white one to match the aged look of the others. Who would have thought my lace doilies would make great antique decorations now that they are old;) I just used what was lying around and easy to find. I will be decorating for christmas next week, so will wait till I dig out the boxes, then I can redo the room.
