Even though I have a ton of unfinished projects I wanted to make something for me, just for fun. I started the Bible Quilt by Jan patek and got one block done. Seems to take me long to stitch with my stiff hands and my applique is pathetic, but I am enjoying the process, so imperfections are fine.
I am using older material that my friend sent me, but wondering if it is too thin for a quilt. I wanted it to look time work, so mixing up the blocks and if it seems too bright with the lighter fabrics, I can always tea stain it. The fabric I used on this one is the lightest, more of a yellowed white, but I wanted to lighten it, so you could see the fabrics in the appliqués.
No matter how much I measure and plan, my placements are always off, but that will just add to the naivette of it;) This will be a display piece so I am not too worried about it getting washed a lot, just so it hold together when I do.
I am using mostly homespuns and civil war type prints, so fun picking out colors for each piece. As you can see, I make my circles by hand, so none are the same or perfectly round.
I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful New Years. Blessings to you and your families.

Happy new year Debbie! Enjoy your new quilt project. I'm thinking 2014 will be a year I finish a lot of my in progress quilt projects. Hugs, Lori
Happy New Year Debbie! :0)
The block looks fine to me. I think you will really like your quilt in the end. I love my blocks though they aren't sen together yet.
Debbie, I like your quilt block. It`s really prim and cool at the same time!
Wishing you a Happy & Healthy 2014!
Happy New Year. I'm looking forward to another year of seeing all your wonderful sewing. Hugs
Looks good to me Debbie...those thinner plaid fabrics are old Roberta Horton...Mom used a lot of them in her Bible quilts so they should be fine...
Happy New Year, Debbie. I am familiar with that quilt...great to begin the year with. Have fun!
Wonderful first block! Your applique looks just fine to me! I have learned that the homespuns are difficult to applique... the tighter the weave of fabric, the easier (less loose threads to fuss over).... Happy New year!
Happy New Year to you dear Debbie :-) xxx
Happy New Year to you and yours Debbie! Can't wait to see your lovely quilt as it progresses, love your first block, Deb
Happy New Year and a lovely quilt in the process....I totally agree with you that imperfections are fine....

Hi Debbie, your project seems like so much fun. We know that it will turn out beautifully. We love the warm, folkart look it. The applique will look great !
Best wishes for a wonderful 2014 filled with light and laughter, from Marina and Daryl
love it, it's very appealing!
hope you have a wonderful new year!
I really like the way the circles aren't "perfect"-- the civil war fabrics are all the rage right now from what I gather online... Here in England lots of people have been asking for them anyways. The stitched angel pillow is lovely. Get some rest, see you in a day or two. ;) Happy 2014.
I really enjoyed making this one a couple of years ago. Your "bad" applique will be perfectly prim!!
I'm in the process of hooking a block from one of Harriet Powers' quilts myself.
