Friday Finish!

I finally finished my blocks by Suzy's Sitcom. I started the blocks, years ago and never finished the rest. When she offered them up again, I did one more and made it into a wall hanging. I like having something that is longer and narrow, to add to a side wall. I hung it on the hooks to get a photo, so I can hang it later, when I decide where to put it.

Another thing I was working on, a puzzle. I have gotten some new puzzles and winter is a nice time to work on them. This one was 1000 pieces, so it took me 4 days of working a bit at a time, on and off during the day. I find it relaxing and once I do one, I can donate them to the local nursing home.

We finally seem to have gotten winter, but at the wrong time. The birds are extra hungry with the snow and cold, so the feeder has been busy. Here are a few of my snowy visitors. The metal bird is a solar feeder, so it lights up at night. I got it for decoration, I really don't want bird poo, all over it.

This Bluejay is a pig, I let him take a few and then chase him off, otherwise he will eat all the peanuts.

The Carolina Wren is coming back again, I think they were hiding out this winter.

We have had more Black-capped Chickadees this year. They tend to get pushed out, by the larger birds. I have the feeder on the porch, so I put out a bit at a time, that way they all get a turn, at different times of the day.

Today we got to spend some time on the island and did a little beach collecting. At one beach, I spotted this Red-tailed hawk. He was on the Osprey nest, scanning the fields for mice.

And this is what I found on the beaches. We came when the tide was coming back in, so the regular collectors got what was on the main beach, I found mine by scanning the incoming tide. The large green piece, was in the water, which is why I wear rubber boots.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend and enjoys some time outside. Or if you are snowed in, time to work on some new projects.

Friday finish!

This week I worked on some new projects and some old. I got a kit to try, so had to do that. Of course, I never follow directions, but mine came pretty close to the original, except for the eyes and I added a tail. It is nice to work from a kit and learn a few new tricks and get ideas for making more, with more details.

I have also been testing kid's kits for bracelets. I finally figured out how to make a Paracord bracelet. Nick likes to make friendship bracelets, so I got a kit for that and to make Paracords, so now I can show him how to make them, when he comes over.

And, I have been working on a block, to balance out the ones I had made, years ago. I was thinking of making it into a long banner style, but not sure if it is too long, so will think that out, the sashing will add to the size, but I can keep that smaller.

Last weekend we rode down to the ocean. A lady informed me, that the waves were over 30 feet, that morning, of course we missed them. But it was still beautiful and a bit rough.

At the wharf, I spotted a bird sitting on a rock, by itself. A first for me, a Razorbill. He didn't seem to mind getting his photo taken.

At home, I have my daily visitors. This Dark-eyed Junco, was enjoying some seed, that he found on the ground.

Today I looked out and spotted this Red-shouldered Hawk. He was sitting above my neighbor's chicken coop. I suspect he was looking for mice and squirrels, that come in for the feed.

I hope you enjoyed your week. It is a great time of year to put out seed, the birds are more hungry in the winter, since food sources are scarce. It brings me joy to see them every day.

Friday Foible!

I have been doing the blocks for Words of Wisdom by Suzy's Sitcom. They are fun to do and I made mine smaller, which I wish I had made slightly larger. Since I made so many, I am just keeping them small, and hoping with some sashing, it will make a nice lap quilt size.

I finished the latest one and took a photo. That is when I noticed the difference in color, duh. I used dark red on this one and the others are a brighter red. So, maybe I will have to do another one, or maybe I will keep the darker one in, maybe make another one or two in dark so I can mix them up, what do you think?

Here are the blocks, all together. I will have to go through my stash and find a red print to go with them. The newest block looks darker than it actually is, I haven't washed out the blue marker yet and the flash focused on the others.

I hope everyone has a nice weekend. The boys are finally getting their birthday party tomorrow, so we will be celebrating that and Sunday, hoping to get out for some paddling.
