Last weekend we got out for a little shopping. On one of the back roads we travel is a small thrift store, that is packed with goodies. I always like to stop to see if I can find any new treasures. It seems someone was destashing, so I was able to get some patterns for only a few dollars.
I always like jar quilts and this way I have all different types that I can use in projects. The angels are cute and I will probably use them, in small projects. Of course the nativity is great to make for gifts. And the stitchery is a nice saying and the first one I did.
I did it on linen and then antiqued it. I am not sure if I want to frame it or make it into a pillow. As a gift, pillows are easier to make and send. What do you think?
I may add a saying or some appliqué to the barn wood blues. I will be adding more to the top and bottom of the quilt, to add more length.
And last week I won a contest and received it this week. It was hosted by Doreen of, Vermont Harvest Folk Art. A wonderful bundle of goodies to use for new projects, wonderful scented candles and a gift certificate. I will have to use the wool threads in a special project.
I also decided to get back to my paintings. Not the best timing, my back and arm are getting worse, so I have a hard time keeping my hand steady and not dropping things. Time to make an appointment with a specialist, before I loose function. I am doing touch ups and adding a few more details, as well as a saying. I am not sure on the lettering, I am leaning towards a shadow outline to make it stand out better. I will be sanding and antiquing the piece, so I can always hide any flubs that I make.
I based it on a photo I took, it is simple and a cloudy day. I may add a little detail to the ground, even though there is none in the photo.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and stay safe if you are in the storm areas.
Love the embroidered piece~ I like it in the frame!! My friend collects sheep, can you tell me the pattern name? Also love your painting!!! have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteGreat finds and always wonderful finishes. Hope you feel better soon.

you have been doing lots of lovely projects... great to get the new patterns at bargain prices.... I loved the framed piece... it would be just as lovely as a pillow though...

The angel pattern looks interesting. The local thrift store I go to seldom has good patterns that suit my style. Most are quite out-dated in style and very simple stuff.
ReplyDeleteLots of lovely projects. I love the lighthouse x
ReplyDeleteLove the embroidered piece, Debbie!
ReplyDeleteI like the framed version also. Cute sailor quilt and great lighthouse painting. Lucky winner of free prizes and quilts for sure.
ReplyDeleteGreat finishes, finds and windfall! That wood fabric is wonderful for your project! Sounds like the best week finishes.
ReplyDeleteI like the stitchery framed.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your win. Great items.
Your painting looks good. You are a woman of many talents.
Make that doctor appointment. We are not getting any younger!
great nautical piece, love the weathered wood fabric with it...yes please get to the doctor..the sooner the better!
ReplyDeleteIf you do decide to frame the piece, I think that it would be very good in that frame. The lighthouse has turned out really nice and maybe a little texture or an evening this in the grass would be good and mix it in with the rest of the textures. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteOne quilt I quilted for a friend was a jar quilt. The jars were full of bugs. One was tipped open and the bees were escaping, appliqued here and there. I wonder where my friend got all that variety of bug prints. I do like the frame. I have one little pillow filled with lavender made by a friend but I am the only one who gets to see it because I keep it next to my bed to help me sleep. The dark wood print is quite nice. I have used a lighter version as borders in some table runners. I hope you can get a little physical help. I remember my father going to the doctor because of pain in a knee. The doctor said he had to expect that because of age ... to which he replied,"my other knee is the same age and it doesn't hurt at all". I hope you can keep up the painting. The lighthouse is lovely.
ReplyDeleteSuch great ideas you are bringing to fruition - I like them all. Those little sailor men are amazing patterns, and I do like that stitchery, too. Thanks for showing such inspiring ideas!
ReplyDeleteLooks like some really amazing finds...lucky you! I love your antiqued piece and think it looks great in the frame. You are so gifted to be able to paint like that. I hope you get some relief for your hand and back. That's no fun!
ReplyDeleteYou get more done in a week/weekend than I do in a year... YIKES! I am with the majority in liking the frame for the sheep stitchery....and I LOVE your fabric choices for the nautical quilt. That wood fabric is amazing!!! Love your painting too...I guess I didn’t know you painted too. You truly are a woman of many, many, talents. I used to rosemal and paint a bit years and years ago....wrist and hand issues pretty much took the brushes out of my hand LOL. Have a great new week.... Smiles & Monday Hugs ~ Robin
ReplyDeleteI love the last image. wonderful.

I love the embroidered piece, I don't know if a frame or pillow is better. Either would be a welcome gift.
