I have spent most of my time going through rentals and finding great places, just to find out that they are already taken, but I finally decided on one that seems to have everything we want and close enough to other areas on the islands.
The house is in the Blue Hill area of Maine, on the coast so we have our own water frontage and beautiful views, going across to Acadia. An added bonus is a jacuzzi so I can sit and soak my old bones when I over do it, which I always do;)
This is what our view from the porch will be like. There is also a gazebo so we can sit out, even if it rains. Another thing I like is the fire pit by the beach, we can sit out at night and it will be like camping too.
And here is a photo of me, enjoying the views in the same area. I think this is just what I need, a place to relax and just enjoying being outside.
On the home front, there is Bean. Bean tends to take up a lot of my time lately, he just loves to play but he is getting better at understanding that I need my rest time too. He loves balls, this is his newest ball, I figure it is large enough that it won't roll under the couch.
And this is part of his ball collection, a border collie can never have enough balls. Some are missing, he tends to lose them and then we find them when we are cleaning and then there are the larger outside balls. Now I am wondering how I can pack the car since he usually stays in his cage in the back, it takes up all the space and we need it for clothes and gear, so he may have to sit in the back seat. The problem with that is I keep my good things like computers and craft gear, as well as food in the seats and he will drool all over them or worse, get car sick, lol. I am thinking that I need to see if I can find something to keep him in his own space on one seat, any ideas would be appreciated. I know he won't like the long ride, but he will love running around the beach and going hiking.
Debbie,
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a perfect vacation spot. So peaceful and beautiful.
When are you going?
Hugs :)

Oh, you will have a wonderful time in Maine. My last visit to my niece in Portland, we went to Arcadia and it was gorgeous there. Enjoy yourself and I hope Bean travels well.
ReplyDeleteCheck on amazon and name brand pet stores they sell a harness that has a leash that buckles into the the seatbelt. I hope you have a wonderful vacation and happy 40th. My husband and I will celebrate our 40th in July.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Deb! I love Maine and hope to go back again. Acadia is just beautiful! YOu have found a wonderful place!
ReplyDeleteNikko has a leash that fastens to a seat belt and also a canvass seat cover that rolls up when not in use. My last dog did not like riding in the car and drooled or worse and it took years to train her out of it. Nikko is a good rider ... loves to look out the window ... and obeys the driver's (my) commands.
ReplyDeleteMy dog, admittedly smaller, a pug--has a car seat. It raises him up, it has a soft fuzzy lining like his crate bed, and has a strong seat belt that hooks onto his harness. The car's seatbelt secure both the seat and this strap, it s very secure. It s comfy and would protect him in the event of an accident. I think they make them for bigger dogs too. It takes up as much space as a child's car seat tho. You can train the dog to sit there using the Sit command and treats. Open the window a smidge, they love the smells, helps with car sickness. Look for the seat on Amazon?
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely break. I hope you have a restful, healing time.
ReplyDeleteOoh I'm so glad - I hope you have a wonderful time! Yep, you're going to need some way to corral Bean....the seat belt clip sounds good.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a great time
ReplyDeleteBig hugs xxx
Debbie,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful place to vacation! I'm glad you found a good rental. I have seen the car seats for dogs. I wish I had trained Zoe to use one early on. We have a huge kennel for her that sits in the back seat. You are right.....it takes up a lot of room! Bean and his ball collection are adorable! Enjoy your vacation. I've never been to Maine but would love to go sometime. Hugs, Lori
A great area to go. And it looks like you have found a perfect place. Enjoy every minute and I will pray for great weather.

You've been a busy bee, as always. So much inspiration on your blog! Enjoy your vacation! It looks so peaceful! Cheers!
ReplyDeleteWish I could join you...looks heavenly :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful, peaceful area! A well deserved rest for sure! Both my dogs loved to travel and yes, both did get car sick when they were very young. The advice given to me was even though they get sick, just keep taking them on short trips and they will get used to it. And they did. Both have traveled all over the country and loved doing it. We have used a harness/seatbelt with them. Should be available in any pet supply store. It works very well. Bean is so adorable. I just love those border collies, they are so smart! My cattle dog had one as a playmate one summer, double trouble! But they were so cute and used to kiss each other :)
