Sunday Stroll Giveaway!

This weekend was beautiful and the perfect weekend for some outings. One of the places I have been wanting to go is Bluff Point in Connecticut. It has trails that go around the peninsula and you can also go biking and kayaking from the park.

We decided to try a hike around the trail and it gave us a chance to see how good the trails were for biking, which I will try next time. There is also a nice area for parking at the boat launch with sandy areas to launch from, so that is also on the to do list, this year.

The trail follows the river that runs in and out of the Long Island sound. Beautiful views right from the start. The trails are perfect for biking too.

Lots of areas to stop and walk along sandy beaches.

It come out to a long sandy beach, perfect for when we go paddling. A great way to paddle at the ocean but still be in protected waters.

The trail comes out to Bluff Point, the perfect place to enjoy the views and the islands.

You can also see the Ledge Lighthouse, it is said to be haunted by a former light keeper. Now it is automated and run as a museum and learning center.

And here is where you can enter the giveaway. Tell me about a haunted place in your area and I will pick a winner on friday and announce it that night. The winner can have their choice of any one of my epatterns. If you don't have a haunted comment, any comment will get you entered.

On sunday we went to the bird sanctuary and saw an amazing variety of sea and land birds, but none of my photos were good enough to show, my zoom can only go so far before getting fuzzy. I did get a fun shot of the new arrivals at the pond, this guy has a good start on hopping.

  1. One of my favorite places on the Oregon Coast is the Heceta Head lighthouse. It is a B&B now and has a 5 course breakfast. As a young girl we would go there and I would dream about some day staying in the caretaker house which is now the B&B. I have stayed there twice and it is wonderful. There is a story that it is also haunted....

  2. Oregon seems to have a lot of haunted lighthouses! The Yaquina Bay lighthouse is another one that's rumored to be haunted. Legend has it that a teenaged girl lost a handkerchief inside the lighthouse, and when she went back to get it she disappeared, never to be seen again.

Is it really just a legend, or is it true...

  3. I've seen the Ledge lighthouse many times as we've cross the Sound on the ferry from New London to Orient Point, LI. I didn't know it was haunted. That's makes the sighting more exciting.

We summer in East Hampton, LI. The ghost of Ted Ammon who was murdered by his wife's boyfriend supposedly haunts his former home. The haunting is given as the excuse for the reason the house sold for less than half of the asking price of $20 million when it sold a few years ago. Our home is definitely not in the same neighborhood.

  4. I know I've said it before but you live in a beautiful place.
Here's my ghost story. Years ago I had two kelpie dogs. Possum died and poor little Toby, who was much younger, really missed her. Many year later Toby was a very frail old dog and we made the sad decision to have him put to sleep. We arranged for the vet to come to our house the next day so Toby could die at home. That evening there was Possum up on our top lawn. She was young and beautiful again. I firmly believe she had come back from dog heaven to wait for Toby and take him back to heaven with her. I was not at all scared by this ghost but rather felt an amazing sense of peace.

  5. Oh wow! where you live is stunning... such a lovely place for out door life :)Oooh I love all that paranormal stuff and would love to look around your light house!
Over the years I have had my fair share of hauntings I think! Houses I have lived in over the years, some have been haunted and I have loved it!
I live on the south coast of England and here there is many a place of haunting here! My local church yard in Broadwater has funny goings on.. a little while ago a group of people were walking through the gave stones and felt tugging behind them.. they turned around and no one was there! Needless to say they left rather quickly! There is an old theatre in Worthing too called the Connaught this also is haunted... a grey lady walks about the theatre and has been seen by many. My favorite haunting is of a well known shop in our town called Thorntons its a kind of chocolate/sweet shop and recently on CCTV there were images of 2 children in old clothes dancing in the shop! When staff arrived they said they heard noises in the stock room and one said...'quiet'! its all rather interesting!
I find all this rather fascinating and love hearing of local places haunted!
Its been really interesting reading other stories here too!
    Smiles and happy hauntings!!
    :)

  6. Long ago my daughter spent a long time in a Chiba hospital for back surgery and I went to visit her every evening visiting hours. When they were over, it was dark and the shortest way back to the train station was through a grave yard. Among all the visiting parents in that large ward, I was the only one that dared to walk through the graveyard. I never did see a single ghost but I got plenty of warnings.

  9. There is a nearby restaurant that sits along side of a railroad track. It looks like a train depot and is quite old but I was told it was never used as a depot. There have been stories for years about the ghost of a young woman being seen in the area of the restaurant that is now the ladies room. Supposedly the young woman was murdered. The restroom is close quarters and on our last visit, the automatic paper towel dispenser operated on its own....probably because of stall door opening so close to it. Made me laugh. And when you wash your hands and look in the mirror, you see a woman behind you because there is a mirror on the opposite wall. There have been articles in the newspaper about the ghost. And how employees have seen it after the restaurant closes for the night.

  11. I think my sewing room is haunted. When I leave it at the end of the day, I'm sure I know where everything is. However, the next morning some little tool I need for the day's work as mysteriously disappeared. One day I am sure to find duplicates of many sewing and quilting tools. (I hope!!!)

  14. Beautiful photos!

Haunted in our area? Well, in Topeka there are stories that Rochester Cemetery is, but I have not had the courage to visit in the dark. My sister has though... and says it is true! YIKES!

Thank you for the help with my bunny rug. It is now finished & I did the background like you suggested since I had run out of wool. :-)

  16. My house! Seriously. My husband and I can be the only ones home and looking at each other talking and there'd be a loud banging upstairs. I cannot tell you how many times my dog growls for no reason. The endless shutting of doors. My hubby swears theres a "man in the corner" of our bedroom. I actually was woken from a deep sleep screaming because I literally felt someone choking me. We try to laugh it all off but I have "cleansed" the house twice with sage. As far as official haunted house, theres a farm in Indianapolis that was on the tv show "A Haunting". A serial killer lived there. Thanks for sharing your pics!

  19. Tallahassee is a very old Southern town. In fact, it was the only state capital in the South which never fell into Union hands during the War of Northern Aggression (aka the Civil War which according to oldtimers is misnamed as there was nothing "civil" about it).

The Old City Cemetery is the last place you want to be on a dark moonless night as some of its occupants express their dislike of the neighbors. You can see and hear their groans and moans very clearly.

  21. At a family's house where I used to babysit, the basement was haunted by an evil spirit. The children played down there and reported seeing, hearing and talking to "a man." The parents called the pastors and elders of our church prayed and commanded it to leave in Jesus name and it went way. I have also experienced similar things in houses where I have lived and praising and worshiping the Lord Jesus Christ drives them away. Thanks for the giveaway! sarah@forrussia.org
