This week I wanted some eggs to fill a basket and love the look of speckled eggs. I didn't like the ones in the stores or the prices, so I decided to make my own grungy eggs. I found paper mache eggs at Jo anns and I had coupons, so I got a couple of packs at half the cost.
I painted them with acrylic paints and let them dry for a day. After that I tried watered down walnut ink on them but it kept dripping and sitting in a box left some blobby spots, so not the best way to age them. I think the best way would have been to sponge it on and use less water with the ink. After I aged them, I used black acylic paint and splattered spots on them with an old toothbrush. The trick to getting a speckled look is to not over load your brush with paint and keep the paint at the top of your brush.
Not perfect but not bad, nice prim look for Easter. I started out with an eggshell white but decided I wanted colored eggs. I have my little bird sitting with it and a bunny next to it, but moved them so I could get a clear shot of the eggs.
I also made another postcard and want to share this one with my readers. I forgot to stain the card first, so it got done after I painted the design. I wanted to add a saying but there wasn't enough room, so I added "Friendship Flowers" in German with fraktur font.
To enter for the postcard, you must live in the US, 48 contiguous states. To enter leave a comment and if you have ever sent a postcard out of the US, what area did you send it to, and what was the cost to that area. Or a card sent in an envelope, which is what I would do if I sent it that far;) I will pick a winner on monday night. If you have never sent something overseas, that is ok too, just leave a comment to let me know you are interested.
I have not had time to make up the new pattern, so hopefully that will get done next week. Hopefully a nice weekend and some outdoor exercise will relieve some of my stress;)
Postcard is done in watercolor pencils and antiqued with walnut ink.
Beautiful postcard and I like how the eggs turned out too. I would love a chance to win the postcard. I have never sent a postcard overseas. I usually put mine in an envelope, even in the us.
ReplyDeleteI like the crest on the bird. Nice design.
ReplyDeleteCute eggs and card. I have sent many postcards to other countries. I recently sent a postcard to a friend in Malta. I used the international "forever" stamp which is currently at $1.15. I enjoy sending and receiving unique postcards.
ReplyDeleteI love the card! My son lived in Costa Rica for a couple of years attending language school. I sent him letters during that time sometimes he got them and sometimes he didn't . I do not remember the cost.
ReplyDeleteWonderful eggs, love the look of them!
ReplyDeleteReally love your card! Have sent letters to New Zealand, but it was years ago, can't remember the cost, but stamps were about half the cost then as now. Count me in the draw!
The postcard is wonderful but I LOVE the eggs!

Have you ever tried batik eggs? I think my granddaughter has a plan to give it a try. I used to do workshops with kids but have not done it for many years.
ReplyDelete'll bet she would like speckling a few too.

Pretty! I think this postcard design would work very well for a needlepunch pattern too! *hint*hint* ;-)
ReplyDeleteAnother wonderful Fraktur card m'dear. Hope you are considering reproducing these designs and selling your cards in lots of 6 or so, bet they would sell for you. Would love to be included in this giveaway also, tho I'm sure I wouldn't send mine to anyone, it would be pinned to the wall in the wool room.
ReplyDeleteNice speckled eggs too.

LOVE the postcard!! I send letters to Denmark quite often. I have many family members who live there. My grandfather and grandmother came from Denmark. They both have gone to be with the Lord quite some time ago but I keep in contact with my cousins there. The cost varies, because I usually send a few goodies as well! Be especially blessed, Kathy
ReplyDeleteYour eggs look wonderful...now I want to run and try making them! Beautiful card, too!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful and I would love to have it to put in my craft and sewing room. I took part in a letter and card campaign for 3 years in a row and sent several cards overseas. It usually only cost a couple of dollars for a card in an envelope and sometimes I included a vintage hankie. I sent them to Malaysia, England, India, Scotland, Canada...and other countries. It was never very expensive. Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteLooks nice; haven't sent a postcard
