Davis's Girls Progress!

Today I pieced the middle three blocks together and then I was able to add the butterflies and birds.
On the original, they are left plain, but I might do some simple stitching in them, later, we shall see.

The original has orange butterflies, so I used some of my hand dyed wool that is more of an orange red.
The tree pattern was done by folding the fabric in half and then cutting them out, I think mine came out a bit too thick. Three more ladies to go, then I can start adding the sashing.

The pattern is from the book, "Civil War Woman", by Barbara Brackman.

Yesterday we were able to get out for a walk, before the rains came. The swans were out, but no babies yet.

  2. I'm loving your quilt!!! Also the swan is so beautiful! There were about 8 swimming in the ocean yesterday when we past them while on our hike. Gorgeous birds and so big!

  3. We have swans in this area. They visit the small lake behind our house every now and then. Mostly they hang out on a smaller body of water where someone feeds them.
I am enjoying watching the progress on your blocks. The one tree sure has lots of berries. I think you have used wool for them.

  4. Debbie,
Your quilt is just wonderful. I know it's a lot of work but what a treasure you will have. Everything is just perfect on it. I'll look forward to seeing it all together.

I love swans. There are some further north of us we like to watch when we get up that way. Hugs, Lori

  7. LOVE those blocks Debbie, I don't think your trees came out too thick at all, they have a very folk-art feel and I just love them. Great pic of the swan!

  8. I rarely see swans. They do come here but never when I catch them. Love this new work.
