I finished my hexagon topper, at least I think I did. Should I or shouldn't I, tea stain it?
I hand sewed them together, so they are not perfect. I learned from making these, to mark my 1/4 mark on the back, so I could sew more evenly;) It is all hand sewn except for the border, which I attached by machine. It measures 22 1/2" from end to end and the hexagons are 1 1/2". This is a great lap or traveling project and by using smaller hexagons, you can make a lot of different design variations.
Here is a close up of the stitching. I used black pearl cotton and stitched inside of each hexagon. I used my new camera, so the colors are better, but I still need to learn how to use the settings to get true color shots. The feather stitch was done with some of my hand dyed floss, so it goes from dark to light green. I am not sure if I will use it for a topper, not sure if I have a table it will fit, lol. I think it would make a nice base for a prim, table top tree.
I took out some decorations and threw them on the table;) I took the rag balls I had and just added orange and gold fabrics around what I had, so they would be bigger and I could use less fabric, that way. Plus, when I am done with fall, I can take it off and they will be red and green again;) The wonderful candle mat was made by my friend Kelley.
And for the Moki fans, this is for you. Not sure where he was, but doesn't say much about my cleaning;)

It looks great, Debbie!
ReplyDeleteHoly Moly - that's a lot of hand stitching....looks wonderful, though..awesome work....Hmmm....Guess I might venture to tea stain it - but ever so slightly - it looks so pretty as it is. Like your idea of just covering your rag balls and being able to undo it for Christmas. Clever. And - oh, my, Moki...you silly, silly, boy. He does look a wee bit embarrassed, doesn't he? Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
ReplyDeleteYou sure did a wonderful job on your hexagon quilt and the stitching just makes it!
ReplyDeleteThe hexie topper is wonderful! Absolutely beautiful! I vote no to tea staining, but I like the colors as they are!
ReplyDeleteDebbie it's just beautiful - I LOVE all the hand stitching! I'm sure you'll find the perfect spot for it. Will tea-dyeing change the colors much? I've only ever tea-dyed white.
ReplyDeleteMokie has been into something - I know there's some spots around my house like that, lol! I love all your decorations, especially those cats!
You're right! That would make a great base for a prim tree! Great job on the quilting of it too! Moki looks good even with stuff on his nose!
ReplyDeleteThe Topper came out great. I love the fabric that you chose.
ReplyDeleteOy! Moki! LOL
Looks good! I need to get out my fall things but I have to clean first. It always makes me feel so good when miss Sadie comes our from behind the sofa looking like a dust mop and it is usually when I have company.

That hexagon quilt is beautiful! What a lot of work that must have been! The color is beautiful...but maybe a little "light" tea dyeing would be ok. I'm always afraid to mess with stuff after I have put soooo much work into it. Love the way your Halloween table look!
ReplyDeleteAll that hand stitching gives it such a homespun look ~ Love It! I don't know that I'd be tea staining it. The colors seem warm and cozy as is.
ReplyDeletei don't feel so bad now because my kitties always show up with dusty spider webs on their noses, too....
ReplyDeletehexagons are fantastic love it as is but of course i tea stain it all!!!
I always know when my kitties have been down in the basement. They have cobwebs on their whiskers. They like to eat those spiders which is fine with me!

Poor Moki! I love your hexie project; will dye make it very different? It is dark, so I don't see dye will change it much, but I am not experienced in that area. Good work! Karmen
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I love the feather stitching.
ReplyDeleteMoki is too adorable! I really like your hexagon table-topper, lovely fabrics & well-loved stitches :)
ReplyDeleteOMG Debbie that is quite a challenge and you did a wonderful job. Miss ya...LenZie
