A new Stitchery!

I finished my stitchery and not that please with it.
I used thin material with a design to get the look of background wallpaper.
It was a pain to stitch on and then I tried a hoop which was nicer, but as I pulled to tighten it, it ripped the fabric.
Thank goodness it was far enough out, that it didn't matter. I was thinking of making it into a pillow.
Then I got the idea of shading in areas with walnut ink, not sure how I like that, didn't really shade.
So, I stopped to think about it and what to do with it and worked on my braided rug instead;)
Tomorrow I might take a wet rag to it and tone down the walnut ink.

The cardinal finally stayed outside when I was out with my camera.
Hard to take shots with the zoom, think I need a tripod and maybe some camera lens cleaner;)
You can see spots on his body where he got into scraps. I don't know what it is with the birds around here, but they are always fighting and will not share the bird feeders.

  1. Ummmm...I'm not seeing what you're not liking on that stitchery - I think it's pretty awesome. And I'm liking the walnut ink staining....Just my opinion! Smiles ~ Robin

  6. I like the stitchery too. The subtle tones are really nice and the fabric you chose is perfect for the theme.

  7. It's a great stitchery! I like the background fabric and the idea of walnut staining is a good one! Makes it look antique. Next time you stitch on a thin fabric, try doubling it up with a piece of muslin. That's what I'm doing with the quilt I am working on (as per the pattern instructions)

  8. I think it's charming Debbie, I really like the background fabric but I know what you mean about stitching on something too thin. Have you ever tried Shape Flex by Pellon? It's a fusible muslin and I've started using it on all my stitcheries, it gives a really nice body to them. I don't use a hoop so I like the fusible - it stays put, lol. I love the shading you did on this.

Your pic of the cardinal turned out really good - I agree about the tripod but I hardly ever have mine with me, I just take as many pics as I can as quick as I can, lol, hoping ONE will turn out.

  9. Debbie...I think your stitchery is beautiful..I enlarged it and I think it looks awesome! It looks like it was a lot of work and the background fabric does look like old wallpaper...nice stitching!

We have a squirrel that gets in our birdfeeder..heh doesn't like to share either!

  10. Despite the problems with making your embroidery piece, I like the look that you got by doing unique things.
