New Cross stitch

I have been getting books of antique samplers to get ideas to make my own.
I saw this piece as part of a larger sampler and wanted to do it by itself as a pillow.
I think it would make a nice pin keep piece to show off the border better.

Here is a photo of the piece, after I finished it.

Here is it, after I sprayed with walnut ink. I like the antique look, but not the flat finish. Wanted it to be more spotted in places to give the look of water damage. I will have to try it outside with the sun, that seems to lift the stains into the piece, more than drying in a dryer. I may do this with a saying and/or date in another try. Let me know what you do and don't like about it, so I can practice more on designing, cross stitch pieces.

I think you did a great job and your finishing is lovely. I think it will look even better if you give it that water stained look.
Happy Easter to you and all your loved ones ~ two and four legged.
    Pug hugs :)

  9. I love it! Maybe give a deer a bit more definition? But it's also great as is!

  10. I like it! If you're looking for a spotted effect on staining, try putting the stain on a foam brush, then dab the brush on a few areas lightly.

  11. I love this just as it is. I have not done spray antique, but wonder if you would get a different effect if the fabric was damp so the antiquing would "bleed". But then again the thread colors might bleed too!

I'm glad you made it through the floods ok and hope that repairs in your area are swift. Isn't amazing how powerful raindrops can be when they gather together?

  12. I think that it's wonderful! I wouldn't change a thing on it! And I'll have to try drying my staining outside. I've been using the oven, but outside may work just as well too!
