One of the wonderful things about blogging is you meet wonderful people. I really love reading your messages and opinions on my pieces. I also meet wonderful people while blog hopping. Since I have been doing cross stitches again, I have been visiting cross stitch sites. One of the wonderful people I have met is, Melissa from Words and Blooms. She does beautiful work on her pieces and I love her cross stitch wall. After leaving a comment she asked if I would like some of her older patterns and of course I said yes. I received a wonderful package with a cross stitch booklet, and two patterns. I decided to start with a piece from "A Sampling of Traditions," by Leisure arts. The piece I am doing is called The Grateful Heart Sampler. I love pieces with sayings, especially inspirational ones. I plan on making a few, along withe some doll quilts to cover the walls in my entryway.
This is what I have finished so far. Today I was not up to par, so I got more work done on it. It is a horrid picture and it does show were I make mistakes;) I am using two strands to give it an antique look. I am also changing a few things to suit my likes and changing some colors. The letters on the original are mixed colors, but I was going with one color. But, I picked up a strand without thinking and by the time I was on the third letter, I realized it, lol. So, I went with it and added two more in that color. Next time I need to take a photo, outside, without flash. It also called for 14 count and I am using 18 count, since i want smaller pieces on the walls.
This is what it is supposed to look like;) I like prim colors, and the house looked more like a cottage, so I changed the roof.
I found this old piece, that I was working on in the 80's and never finished. It has an alphabet going around it. I have no idea where the book is and if I still have it. Time to clean out the basement. I love comments and if you have questions, I always leave an answer in the comment section.
As you can see, my eyes were better, 30 years ago;)
Debbie - your piece looks great - i don't see any mistakes - again you are too hard on yourself. Lucky you that you can stitch so fast....ah the days...I used to be able to do that - LOL! Amazing how much you get accomplished
ReplyDeleteI know how much work that is...and I love them especially the house one! Great work! I haven't stitched in awhile and I do miss it!
ReplyDeleteHave a great rest of the week!

Hey Debbie, your Grateful Heart looks great! It's a wonderful design and I think it's a Little House Needleworks design, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteThe three kitties are cute. I think I remember that as an old Cricket Collection design.
You're doing great with your stitching!
I LOVE how you changed the house roof on Grateful Heart; I like the design as a whole a lot better with your change. Not crazy about the cottagey looking houses myself.
ReplyDeleteHope you don't get too much snow. I've had enough.
I too have ventured back into the world of cross stitch. I used to do it like a maniac! I am stitching on linen and I don't understand...the holes are smaller than they used to be. I NEED TO USE MY LIGHTED MAGNIFYING GLASS.
ReplyDeletePat (who adores samplers of any kind)
Great piece Debbie! I can't believe what a different changing the angle of the roof made too! Kepp on stitchin'! :-)
ReplyDeleteVery sweet and Americana-looking with the architectural changes to the house! Also, love your 80's cats!.
ReplyDeleteI think your changing of the roof is very suitable; gives a better look. :D
ReplyDeleteYour plan for the entryway will look very nice, I think.
Your cross stitch is looking great and I certainly didn't see any mistakes! You so talented in everything you do! :)
ReplyDeleteDebbie, your cross stitch is wonderful.. I love the way you changed the roof on the house. Great Job!! I made a Christmas cross stitch years ago and pulled it out this Christmas to frame it. Unfortunately it has a stain on it and I'm not sure how to get it out. I tried a few stain removers but they didn't work. I wonder now if maybe Peroxide might take it out. Do you have any ideas. Thanks.. :) It's a cream background with a couple of yellow stains, not sure what they are.
ReplyDeleteLove how you made the house the way you wanted it to be. Great idea! Kitties are too cute.
ReplyDeleteI always like the older one's Debbie.
ReplyDeleteThere is something about them that is age and timeless x x x
Keep going, I can't wait to see more
Debbie~
ReplyDeleteI like your sampler and the changes you made. There sure are lots of wonderful people out there to meet and call friend. Enjoy stitching up your gifted patterns.
