Punch Needle Gift

Last week, Lynda Hall sent me a couple of patterns as a happy present, since I have been sick. I love keeping busy, I cannot just sit and do nothing;) I will be using them to make presents for some of my friends, so I was delighted to receive them. If you have never seen Lynda's patterns, her site is a must see. She makes the most beautiful quilts and has a wonderful way with color and fabric to bring a primitive look to each one. I love seeing her decorations as well, she changes them out with the seasons. She also has a newsletter, so be sure to sign up. This month she is running specials on patterns for her newletter subscribers.

So, since i have time on my hands, I wanted to do something special for her. I made her a punched pillow using the design from her Shirley block. I used variegated wool on the wings and my own hand dyed grungy green for the dress and outer border. I really like how this one came out. I hope she does too. Luckily she is away, so she won't see this until she gets home;)

And don't forget, if you haven't commented on the contest, be sure to leave a comment and get a chance to win a signed copy of Lynnette Anderson's new book.

  4. I LOVE the background on this one! Making the checks going in one direction would be easy. It's the going in the opposite direction to the the checkerboard effect that I would be tempted to "cheat" (skipping over the completed row so that I wouldn't have to stop, snip, and start again! :)

  5. Ok, I confess, I was stopping and starting and then thought, why can't I skip over the row. I worked in 3 strands so no bumps and I stayed on top of the stitch, so it stay tight, no long piece on the back, can't even tell I did it;)

  12. I know I wrote to you personally to say thank you, but I wanted your followers to know how special I think you are.......Your gift was waiting for me when I returned from the mountains. I couldn't wait to get it opened and then just stood there and cried. I just loved it and thought how kind you were to make me something so special. After collecting myself, I thought, well that angel looks familiar, but didn't actually realize it was from one of my patterns.....duh! When I did, I have to share with you how much more special it became. You see, that Shirley, Goodness and Mercy table runner pattern was designed with my sister, my sister-in-law and myself in mind. My sister Sharron, was Shirley because she surely would make us laugh about something she would make. She was not a primitive sort of girl. My sister-in-law Donna, was goodness because she was the one that made everything so well and I was mercy.....well, because I was the one that would always make something less perfect, a little off, so to speak. You choosing to make the Shirley angel for me is very special because I lost my only sister to cancer 3 1/2 years ago....I will never forget your kindness and appreciate what you made for me so very much! Everyone that posted was absolutely correct - I LOVE IT! Hugs, Lynda
