Today I finally finished my runner.
I did a yarn whip stitch around the edge and tucked under the excess backing and loosely stitched it to the back.
The rug still needs steaming and walking on, then as it flattens out more, I can redo the back after it has stretched.
I also need to clip the leftover snippets on top.
I am not sure if I want to make a big rug again. I would like to make one for my living room, but between the time it takes and struggling with it on the frame, I might stick with smaller ones.
This is not a great picture. I tried an extra light, but with flash, it makes everything pop out in color.
I used a lot of scrap wools in various weights and textures to give it more of an antique appearance.
For some reason it looks like you can see the white edge underneath, but that is the black yarn edge. Flash really plays havoc with my rugs.
One of the reasons I used scrap and rough wools was for this guy. This is his spot and he needed something he can lay on and run across without slipping. He seems to be pleased with it;) The rug is 78" long x 27" wide.
Oh, my! This turned out so beautiful! Well done!
ReplyDeleteFantastic..My new goal for 2010 is to learn to hook a rug. Like I NEED another project.

Wonderful piece!! You've captured the old look.. Your pup looks content with it too.
ReplyDeleteWow! Your rug is gorgeous Debbie! The design is wonderful and the color choices are perfect! My rugs always photograph funny indoors too... I think I've had the best luck photographing outside on a cloudy day? Wool likes to be outside...LOL! Love that Casey! :-)
ReplyDeleteHe does seem pleased with his rug!!!
ReplyDeleteI think it turned out great and I love how your colors look so old!

ReplyDeleteYour rug is absolutley gorgeous! And big...OMG...it would take me years to finish a rug that large. You should be very proud of that rug!
Pug hugs :)

Yay!! congratulations finishing your big runner!!! Yah, they are a struggle to maneuver, but sooo worth it in the end! It looks gorgeous! :D
ReplyDeleteYour rug came out beautiful! I hope to see the design close up at some point. You chose well with the muted antique colors but were also able to get contrast. I'm still learning how to do that! Congratulations!

Debbie...this is a masterpiece...love that blue cat...and the sweet dogs on each end...Casey will have a great time enjoying this warm and cozy spot...
ReplyDeleteDebbie, this is HUGE....and very pretty. I can't even imagine the time and effort that went into hooking this runner!! I mean, it IS over 6 feet long. What a project! And it's one you should be very proud of.
ReplyDeleteYour rug is gorgeous. I don't do much rughooking so I tend to really treasure the few rughooked things that I do have. I admit, I do cringe a bit to see your dog laying on it! But if he's happy with it and you're happy that he is happy, then I'm happy too!

That is so beautiful!!! I can't even imagine doing something like that. It is way to pretty to have on the floor!! Great job--you should be so proud.

The wonderful thing about hooked rugs is you always have an extra supply of wool to fix any problems that come along. I actually have three in the kitchen that are due for a cleaning, but they hold up well, even in there.

Love it, love it, LOVE IT!!!
