I decided to take out one of my unfinished projects and finish it, my wool quilt. I had a few things to sew down and some stitchery to add faces and windows, and finished that. Then I laid it out on the backing I am using for it. My original plan was to make the blocks, then sew scraps of wool together to fill in the spaces. But, I have no idea what layout I had to do that, makes no sense to me now, lol.
So, I need to rethink it, maybe make a few more blocks and still do some fillers. I am thinking that, instead of sewing the pieces together, I might work it as a crazy quilt. I can use a scrap piece of backing and lay the pieces down and then add wool and overlay it to the back and stitch it down that way. Something to think about and mull over.
The blocks were done with various patterns that I have in books, you will see a bit of Jan patek in a few of them. It is a fun way to make your own quilt, pick out appliques that you like and make them into one quilt. Any suggestions or ideas, are appreciated!
The top block is a possibility for another applique piece. This is what happens when you put something away for a year, you forget what you were doing;)

Oh your wool appliqué and blocks are beautiful. I think making it like a crazy quilt would look cool. You could incorporate a bunch of neat stitches. You could make a sashing with pennies around the blocks. That would be pretty. Well you need more wool for that too. :-) whatever you do, will be awesome!
Beautiful blocks and I'm sure however you put it together it will be a keeper!
Love it!!!
Keep moving the pieces around and fill the spaces with wool sashing or small wool squares. It is looking good and I love the colours in the pieces.
Ooooo....I LOVE this one Debbie!! Yes, yes....love the crazy quilt idea....especially with bunches of fancy stitches like the old ones have!! (Hey, you're good...YOU can do that!!) :o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

This is a gorgeous piece. It will be fabulous when finished.
It's so you! I'm looking forward to seeing more so don't put it away! I'd keep the quilting simple and prim!
Oooh! I like! Even though the blocks came from different sources, all go together well. And shows your creativity.
It's a great start! Shouldn't take you long now!!
How about your initials and the year in one of those blank areas? It's beautiful. Please show us the finished piece whenever!! No rush....it's worth waiting for.
It's so beautiful! Love it!
Your quilt looks great and I can't wait to see how you put it together. I know what you're going through with not remembering what you were doing with it. I've had a few of those projects myself. :o)
Great wool blocks Debbie! I'm sure however you decide to put them together will be wonderful. Hugs, Lori
Love it! I like the idea of adding crazy patches and stitches in between the appliqued blocks... lots of work... but you will make it look super!
Beautiful! I just love it!
I've never thought about combining different patterns to make a quilt. How neat is that?!
I love the sense of whimsy your piece is showing. In the fall of 2010 I broke a bone in my foot and made myself a wool crazy quilt huswif, Kaaren from the Painted Quilt had the embroider for the inside and I decided to crazy quilt the outside.
Not until I got it finished that I realized that realized I had grouped Spring and Summer themes on one half and Autumn and Winter on the other.
It will be interested to see how your piece finishes up.
oh it is beautiful. I totally agree with that confusion that comes when you drag an old project out...I have a lot of that ahead of me!
that is amazing, never thought of doing something like this but what a special quilt, all your own designs more or less because you put them together individually. LOVE THE IDEA. Your QUILT IS BEAUTIFUL, thanks for sharing.
It is perfect! Wonderful quilt, can't wait to see your finish :O)
What ever you do is amazing so what if it hasn't seen the light of day for a year :-) x x x
