Homeward Bound Quilt!

I am planning on a quilt for my bed and I want it to be simple, but nice. Someday I will make something more detailed, but for now, I want something I like and something I can make quickly. So, I went through all of my old quilt magazines and found one I like in a 1997 Quilt magazine. It is called Homeward bound and I like how they used shirting in the blocks. I want to do mine with darker colors and mix up the shirtings with homespuns, I have a few with stripes and in all types of colors.

I was thinking of using my blacks in place of the orange blocks and darker white or cream for the light whites, they mixing up the triangle blocks with hit and miss fabrics from my stash.

Here are some of the fabrics I am playing with, I love the blacks and some of the homespuns, some might be too light. Would love suggestions on colors and layouts, it is getting warmer, so want to get this one done first, so I can use it. I definitely want to use the blue and tan striped on the bottom left and the blue stripes on the top of the pile.

I would add a few blue fabrics to the triangle blocks to make the blue stripe stand out more and go a bit scrappy and add bits of all
the colours you like.

That's a great looking quilt! I think you picked out great fabrics and could easily make one very close to the picture... if you want something different maybe substitute colonial blue for the red-ish squares? Either way... my new favorite combo is the black, brown, neutral colorway... there is a quilt along on one of the blogs I follow and she is using those colors...

In my opinion, you just can't go wrong with blacks. My favorite method is to set aside a box (bag, basket, whatever) and just start throwing all my *current* favorites into in. In just a little bit, you will be surprised at the wonderful, scrappy collection you have ready to start piecing with.

I love the quilt pattern you chose. I have the hardest time choosing colors and placement so can't be much help. I love the fabrics you have. Can't wait to see what you do.
Hugs,
Lorna

I think your color choices look great. I would maybe add one more deeper red toned pattern to match the color of the top piece that looks sort of rusty red and almost solid on my monitor. But, no matter what you do, it'll be fabulous!

Hi there, these poor little children are being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at very early ages. What a cure would mean for my bosses 4 year old son Sandro is, no more testing before he eats and no more insulin pump site changes every three days - OUCH!

My dream is that no other kids, including Sandro, have to live with the challenges of type 1 diabetes and with super people like you, I can't wait for that dream to come true.
